Our History

Pete Hunter started Hunter Construction in 1988 out of Alpena, Michigan. Initially, Pete started doing residential construction and built his first house at the age of 16. He later transitioned to commercial construction building steel warehouses, restaurants, garages, grocery stores, and gas stations from the ground up. He then started focusing mainly on gas station remodeling projects updating the lighting and canopies. While working on these gas station projects, the one thing that always stuck in Pete’s mind was the deteriorating gas pump islands; stations would have the latest technology, lighting, canopy, signage, and everything else, but still would have corroded, paint chipped, islands. After several years of brainstorming and trying a few different methods, Pete Hunter invented and patented Hunter Pump Islands.

Pete has been installing the Hunter Pump Islands process for the last ten years in over 27 different states. Hunter Pump Islands continues to be a family-owned and operated business out of Alpena, Michigan, and operates in the states shown below:

As the need for Hunter Pump Islands grew, Pete expanded to operating two crews – one that he leads himself, and one that his son, Ryan leads. Ryan has been working and learning with Pete since he was 14 years old.
